About The GMOs

Lonnie Aarssen

Lonnie Aarssen

Lonnie Aarssen (keys and vocals) loves playing with the GMOs whenever he can manage the trip from his Kingston-area residence.  Lonnie and Owen have been buddies and band mates in musical configurations of various kinds since public school days — doing what the GMOs do best:  keeping the dance floor rocking!

Matthew Gans

Matthew Gans

Matthew Gans (harmonica) always enjoys the opportunity to play with The GMOs whether it be on Research Lane for a fundraiser, at the Brass Taps , or at College Royal. When lucky enough to find the right key for the harmonica, Matthew plays the fills in between vocals and takes the occasional solo. Known as “Smokestack” for his blistering playing style, Matt enjoys the blues best of all, but can rock with the best of them.

Len Kahn

Len Kahn

Len Kahn’s (drums) passion for music combined with a complete lack of interest in learning to read music, led inexorably to one place – drums. Len contributes the ‘meat and potatoes’ backdrop to the GMOs sound – he hasn’t met the 4/4 song he can’t master. He’s also involved in song writing and producing with the band, but by majority vote is the only non-singing member of the GMOs.

Owen Roberts

Owen Roberts

Owen Roberts (vocals and guitar) formed the GMOs in 1999 with drummer Len Kahn, who needed someone to front a pre-millennium party...and ended up with Owen! Owen likes to think he borrows his guitar style from blues giant Roy Buchanan, although he can't put down his Les Paul Custom long enough to pick up a Telecaster, like his guitar idol played. But once the dance floor starts moving, who cares?  The GMOs are all about non-stop rock.

Joey Sabljic

Joey Sabljic

Joey Sabljic (bass, vocals and occasional guitar) grew up listening to his father’s '60s record collection and knew from a very young age that he was born in the wrong decade. Luckily, the GMOs came a-knockin’ and Joey found a cast of like-minded characters to live out his garage punk and R&B musical fantasies. Joey spends most of his time hammering out anchoring lines on his trusty black n’ white Precision Bass, but occasionally subs in on guitar and lead vocals for his throat-shredding, high energy takes on the classics.
